Line Drivers for Digital X-Ray Imaging

Line drivers boosting signals over lossy cables, point-to-point backplane configurations, or other situations where loss of signal due to fading or fan-out is expected. They are commonly available as separate devices, but many electronics manufacturers offer specialized IC’s which integrate another function such as an analog front end (AFE.) Line drivers increase the strength or power of the output signal to the power line, which enables transmission over sufficient distances. With respect to electronics, a line driver is a general term that can apply to analog/digital signals or power. Examples would include amplifiers for analog signals, a communication bus repeater (LVDS, RS232, etc.), a level translator, or a micropower interface.
